CASA

CASA is a trained community volunteer appointed by the Juvenile Court to be a voice for children involved in court proceedings due to abuse or neglect.

Volunteers conduct independent investigations about the facts leading to the child's removal, attend court proceedings, and provide recommendations to the judge as to the best interest of the child. Volunteers must be 21 years of age.

Athens Regional Medical Center

Volunteers need no special training to get involved. Interested applicants are interviewed and special talents and person schedules are matched to the hospital's needs. Most volunteer approximately four hours a week however, additional hours are always welcome. Evenings and weekend voluteers are always needed as well as weekdays.

Athens Tutorial is a charitable, non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing academic assisstance, improving learning skills, and providing personal growth and cultural enrichment opportunities to the students from K-12 grade.

BikeAthens

There are various events and committees one can volunteer for. The events are Tour de Sprawl, Bike Safety Rodeos for Kids, Courteous Mass Rides, and Century Ride Fundraiser. The different committees are Publicity, Transit Issues, Bike Facility Issues, Graphic Design, Accident tracking, Meetings & Programs, Pedestrian issues, and Bike Recycling.

Botanical Gardens

Volunteers work in virtually every area of the Garden, staffing the Gift Shop, information desk, library, and special events like plant sales and family festivals. Volunteers assist the horticulture staff, serve as tour guides, and work with special programs and projects—photography, label making, and trail interpretation to name just a few.

The Boys and Girls Club of Athens is looking for volunteers that can give homework help between 3-4:30 pm or become a tutor for a specific subject. There is also an opportunity to interact with the kids between 3-7 pm Monday - Friday.

Clarke County Mentoring Program

Volunteers are matched with students after completing an application, police background check, and a two hour training session. You must make a one-year commitment to the program and spend three hours per month with your student.

Even Start Family Literacy Program

Even Start is a government funded program that provides GED prep classes and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for families in need. They need tutors to help the adults in the GED and ESL classes. The following days and times are available on Monday - Friday:

  • 2 GED prep classes and intermediate ESL class from 8:15am to 11:15am
  • 1 GED prep class, an advanced ESL class, and a beginner ESL class from 12:15pm to 3:15pm.

Interested in taking a stand against domestic violence and making a difference in the lives of victims? Become a Project Safe volunteer. Project Safe relies heavily on volunteers to provide a wide range of services to victims of domestic violence and their families.
